Event Description

This event has been postponed. Date to be determined.

Camp GK Bear is a one day camp for children, Grades K-6, who have had a significant person in their life pass away. This special person may include a parent, sibling, grandparent, friend, classmate, cousin, or others.

The staff and volunteers at Camp GK Bear have had special training and understand the uniqueness of a child’s grief journey. Through special camp activities, children will learn about the journey of grief. They will also have a chance to share special memories of their loved one. Please have your child bring a photograph or something special to share with the group that day. There will be opportunities to discuss some of their feelings and how to handle them. Children may learn new ways of coping with the changes that have come about and what it means to live without their loved one. Grief is not something we get over; it is something we learn how to live with. Camp GK Bear is designed to teach just that. In addition to learning about grief, children will be able to enjoy recreational activities and have fun!

There will be an adult educational session from 10-10:45 am. The camp is staffed by Rice Hospice social workers and trained volunteers. There is no cost to attend Camp GK Bear. Lunch, snacks and beverages will be provided. Pre-registration is required and needs to be returned to Rice Hospice by Friday, April 17, 2020.
