Rice Hospital Summer Nursing Student Internship

The Summer Nursing Intern Program is an opportunity for nursing students (BSN, BAN), between their junior and senior years, to participate in a learning and work experience to provide the connection between education and real-life practice.

This program runs for ten weeks, from June to August and is a paid internship. Interns will be scheduled 64 hours per two-week pay period. Interns will work the same hours as their RN coach (8-hour and 12-hour shifts), including rotating shifts and weekends.

Under the direction of an RN coach, interns further their understanding of the practice of professional nursing. Opportunities are available in a variety of areas at Rice Hospital including:

  • Adult Health Care (Med-Surg)
  • Emergency Room
  • Float Pool
  • Women and Children’s Care (includes OB)

In addition, students have the opportunity to observe in other areas for several shifts toward the end of the internship.

Nursing Interns must:

  • Have completed their junior year in a baccalaureate nursing program;
  • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Be enrolled in a summer nursing internship course through a participating Minnesota college or university prior to your internship
  • Have current CPR certification

If you are attending a college or university outside the state of Minnesota, you will need to enroll in a summer nursing internship course through a Minnesota college or university, and be supervised by a nursing faculty member licensed in Minnesota.

The summer nursing internship class has been offered in the past at St. Cloud and Mankato State. Please check directly with these and other colleges about their course offerings.

The Minnesota Board of Nursing requires that in order for a person to practice nursing in the state, they either have to be licensed as an RN or LPN or be under the supervision of an instructor licensed in the state.
